Final Blog Post
“Our ‘Age of Anxiety’ is, in great part, the result of trying to do today’s job with yesterday’s tools—with yesterday’s concepts.”(McLuhan)
For my final project, I created three large collages that combine moments from my personal life with the constant presence of media and technology. Each piece is built from images that represent experiences I often take for granted, places I go, and everyday moments that normally pass without much thought. These images are layered together to show how memory and experience overlap and build on each other over time.
On top of these collages, I added overlays of social media apps, notifications, and message bubbles. These elements interrupt the images beneath them, symbolizing how digital media constantly competes for our attention. Even during meaningful experiences, there is often a screen, a notification, or a message pulling us away from the moment.
The quote about our “Age of Anxiety” connects to this idea. We are living in a time where technology allows us to stay constantly connected, but that connection can also create distraction and pressure. By layering the social media imagery over my personal experiences, I wanted to show how modern media shapes the way we see, remember, and value our own lives. Ultimately, the project reflects the tension between real experiences and the digital noise that surrounds them.
